Here is a classic EAR 834P Deluxe model tube phono stage in really nice condition that could be yours. I am the original owner and the unit is about ten years old but has been well cared for in a smoke and pet free home with little use (it was in storage for a few years when my vinyl rig was down). Made in England and designed by audio whiz Tim de Paravicini. It has recently had a major upgrade by Mitch Singerman with his famous type 2 mod. These include 6 Musicaps capacitors, 12 Caddock resistors and 2 IR hexfred diodes. All four RCA jacks were also replaced by Mitch with much higher quality jacks than the flimsy el cheapo originals. Mitch also removed and bypassed the MM switch from the circuit for added transparency, therefore the phono stage is for moving coil use only right now. A brand new switch is included in the sale so it can be installed if you like. This is an easy install as the 12 prong switch is just soldered into the top of the circuit board. The total cost for Mitch's work was $464. These modifications give the unit a lower noise floor, blacker backgrounds and a much more open sound and extended treble response. With the quieter background you will hear low level details and a much higher resolution than the stock model. Gone is the sometimes overly warm mid bass and somewhat rolled off high end of the original for a faster, crisper overall sound. The 834P has only around 150 to 200 hours use since the work has been done and is still breaking in. This mod is notorious for needing a very long break in time.
Tube rolling is easy with this unit. Included is a vintage Amperex Bugle Boy 12 AU7, a vintage RCA 12 AX7A, and a made in Hungary 12 AX7 that is the type that comes with a new unit. I am throwing in three spare tubes...a vintage GE JAN 12AX7, and two very low hour Edicron ECC81 and ECC83. You cannot go wrong with this amazing highly regarded phono stage. Built like a tank this unit has been trouble free (except for the poor quality original RCA's). Sorry, no returns on this, but I do guarantee the unit is working better than new. No scratches that I can find and the beautiful chrome front panel looks great. This has the brass on and off switch with no volume control.
The manual is included (if you can call it that) but it is just a couple of pages with a schematic. I will pay the PayPal to save the buyer a few bucks and check my feedback for quick shipping and sturdy packing. Local pickup in Portland, OR is a possibility. Price is $1,749 plus $45 shipping (with insurance) in the continental USA. If actual shipping cost is below $45 I will refund the difference. Shipping is via FedEx Ground. Will consider foreign shipping (actual cost). The unit will be double boxed with very sturdy packing. Check my feedback for no hassle service.
