So, for only 2 1/2% of it's original 1999 list price of $6,000 you can have a lot of fun, or
at least I have found that to be the case. Rated 7 simply because of age.
The Lexicon MC-1, in particular, will allow you to expand 2-ch conventional line sources
using their highly respected "Logic 7" technology into simulated
5.1 or 7.1 playback. There are up to 8 stereo analog audio inputs (ala a
standard pre-amp). There are also up to 8 S/PDIF inputs(5 coaxial RCA
connectors and 3 optical connectors for digital audio input (but limited to
standard 48K Hz). Obviously, the S/PDIF inputs make use of LEXICON's respected
built-in DAC.
With the advent of meaningful 2-ch streaming services (e.g., Pandora, Rhapsody, iTunes, etc),
I've found that the ability to expand to 5.1/7.1 can really enhance such
non-critical listening experiences.
It also does most of the other things that DSP's do but in ways that, by today's standards, are,
a bit stale (e.g., no HDMI, limited support for digital inputs above 16 bit, 48K
Hz [i.e., above "standard" CD rates]). If you wish to get into the
details, the detailed Owner's Manual for the MC-1 can be obtained from the
LEXICON site (under "Support").
If you're considering this LEXICON, you may also wish to explore my Dared 6 DV-6C multi-channel
Hybrid amplifier listing (quite inexpensive). Using the LEXICON as a frontend
to the Dared will allow you to achieve very high quality expanded 5.1-ch sound
(from 2-ch inputs), well amplified for not very much money.
As a free bonus (shipping extra), I will also include a Yamaha DSP-1 which was a
revolutionary processor of early home theater surround sound equipment,
produced in 1985 by the Yamaha Corporation. It allowed owners to synthesize up
to 6-ch of surround sound from 2-ch stereo sound via a complex digital signal
processor (DSP). It's something of an audio milestone and I'd love to see it go
to someone/anyone who cares about such historic things.
So, for very little money, here's a chance to dabble with both early (the Yamaha) and later
(the LEXICON w/ sophisticated "Logic 7") forms of simulated multi-channel.
You can then do some comparisons, and see if you'd like to further dabble in quality
multi-channel or not.
I'm selling this "As Is" because it makes no sense to be shipping something this inexpensive back and forth. However, I value my reputation on A'gon and will of course honor legitimate concerns if it
proves other than as advertized. Local buyers are of course welcome to
inspect it prior to pickup.
