SCPA 1 Six-Channel Preamp and SB 1 Switchbox
The SCPA-1 has amazing purity, the result of exquisite design by an accomplished engineer with a deep appreciation for and love of music. This seminal preamp is the high-quality audio product from Dan Banquer, founder of R.E. Designs. It offers wide flexibility with channel trims to set the gain of each channel from 6db to 18db. Each channel trim is adjustable to within .025db of the target gain. Once adjusted, a locking device can be set on each individual channel trim. Distortion: <.002% referred to 1 volt, Signal to Noise Ratio: -100dbv; power supply harmonics typically less than-92dbv, Tracking Error: 0.1db max, Stereo Separation: 104 db at 1 kHz, Frequency Response: R = 10k ohms; less than 0.1db deviation from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. For 10k ohms in parallel with 10,000 picofarads of capacitance, 0.1db down at 20 kHz. The above measurement represents the unit driving 50' to 100' of cable. The SB 1 is a totally passive switchbox designed to connect any stereo (2-channel) source to the SCPA 1 (6-channel) preamp in a convenient and sonically neutral way. The SB 1 has four 2-channel inputs and one 2-channel output. The SB 1 uses a high-quality long-life rotary switch to select stereo input sources, is extremely well shielded, and the internal grounding greatly reduces hum and noise without sacrificing stereo separation.
