PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TITLE SHOULD READ "EIRE" SPEAKERS
I purchased these in 2002 direct from Mike McCall, founder of Shamrock, who unfortunately quit the business a few years later. Mike was one of those special people who loved building great speakers. I have enjoyed these speakers immensely since then but finally decided that I deserved an upgrade to a full range floor standing model. I’ve rated these Eire's’s at 7 due to few cosmetic dings noted in the pics. Operationally they rate a 9.0.
Search the web for reviews of the Eire circa 1998-2002 which will include the following info. The Eire measures 19.5" tall by 8.5" wide by 13" deep and weighs 35 pounds. It is a front-ported design that uses a 1" Scan-Speak soft-dome tweeter and a 7" Scan-Speak paper/carbon-fiber woofer. Both drivers operate in phase, with an acoustic fourth-order roll-off for the tweeter and a third-order for the woofer. The speaker's efficiency rating is 85dB, and its nominal impedance is quoted as 8 ohms, 6.5 ohms minimum. The Eire is an easy load for any good solid-state amplifier and many good tube amplifiers. Binding posts allow for bi-wiring though I used jumpers which are included in this offer.
All walls except for the front baffle are made of 3/4" MDF and internally braced both vertically and horizontally. A real-wood veneer is used to finish off the MDF walls. The front baffle is a solid piece of lovely Peruvian walnut.
