PREAMP DETAILS

The preamplifier, representing the conductor of an audiophile system, must orchestrate and direct all of the various elements without intruding upon the performance. To accomplish this goal, strict attention was paid in the circuit design to assure that the preamp maintains and conveys the sonic purity of the performers. The keys to this are simplicity of design and the integrity of the components used.

You will find only the finest audiophile-grade electronic components used in the signal path. Select bypass capacitors by Wima and Roderstein, precision, 1% metal film resistors and Teflon coated, 99% pure OFC (oxygen-free copper) wire for signal transmission. In addition, absolutely no tone or loudness controls are used. Without any compromise, the C-800 faithfully reproduces all of the subtle details of the original signal.

Direct access to the switching capability of the C-800 is available with the remote control or through controls located on the front panel. Selection of listening sources for both the main and remote locations, adjustment of volume and recording source selections require only the touch of a few buttons. System status is indicated by both the soft light of the built-in fluorescent display and via the on-screen display sent to your video monitor.

THX Home Cinema Processor

THX home cinema processors are specifically designed to improve the multi-channel film soundtrack playback in the acoustic environment represented by the typical home theater. These improvements are necessary to adjust film soundtrack, originally mixed for the acoustics of a very large auditorium, to the home theaters more intimate and much smaller acoustic setting.

These processing enhancements are incorporated in the THX home cinema mode of the Chiro C-800. With the appropriate THX amplifiers (such as the Chiro C-200, C-300 and C-500), and dedicated THX subwoofer systems, the full impact of the film directors vision will be conveyed. The superior performance of the complete THX home cinema system will provide the optimum in:

· Enveloping surround sound

· Extended and smooth frequency response

· Smooth movement between the channels

Dolby Pro Logic

Dolby Pro Logic is the current standard for decoding the multi-channel effects of Dolby Stereo movie soundtracks. The Dolby processor extracts the four effects signals (left, center, right and surround) embedded in the two-channel soundtrack, then actively steers them for routing to the individual speaker channels.

Dolby Pro Logic decoding is your vital link between the spatial articulation of surround sound encoded on your source and your listening environment. This important function is accomplished using analog circuitry. Many years of experience in producing High-End audio have shown us that only analog circuitry will produce the very subtle details required to capture superb effects without degrading sound quality.

Dolby Pro Logic is always engaged during THX home cinema mode of operation. In addition, the Dolby Pro Logic mode may be selected and used independently, without additional THX enhancements.

MDF (Multi-Digital Format)

MDF compatibility is an integral part of the advanced design philosophy of the C-800. New, digitally based forms of soundtrack (Dolby Digital/AC3 and DTS) encoding are now here. Our new multichannel decoder C-5.1 is designed to upgrade your C-800 to perform multi-channel processing. These new formats will extend and enhance the music listening and movie viewing experience by providing fully discrete, digitally encoded multi-channel sound.

MCI (Multi-Channel Interface)

MCI technology makes the C-800 ready to accept any new digital multi-channel formats. An interface connector (DB-25 type) jointly developed by Dolby Labs and THX as the industry standard interface for these emerging digital technologies, is incorporated in the C-800 to provide you with not only the best of today’s technologies, but also of tomorrow’s.

Enhanced Stereo

Enhanced stereo playback mode will redefine how you listen the music. This mode uses the main left and right stereo speakers in conjunction with the two surround speakers. First, a direct signal path is established from the playback source to the master volume control and then on the main speakers. No processing or other circuitry is allowed to intrude so that every detail in the recording is available to the main speakers. At the same time, a second path is connected to the proprietary DSP processor for generation of the surround signals. These signals are then filtered, de-correlated and sent to a separate volume control, which is slaved to the master volume. This signal is now available to enhance and reinforce the natural ambiance of the main speakers.

Stereo Bypass

Stereo bypass mode is available for standard music listening sessions. This mode uses
only the main left and right stereo speakers.

EVI (Enhanced Video Imaging)

EVI circuitry ensures that all the brilliant colors and subtled details of your favorite films are projected with maximum clarity. All video connections are buffered for optimal transmission characteristics. True 75 ohm input and output impedance provides the ideal load for your video source as well as maximum current drive capability to your monitor.

AM/FM Tuner with Random Presets

The Chiro C-800 features a remarkable and unique turner that can be easily programmed to function anywhere in the world. Special circuits are designed to monitor FM signals continuously so that stereo separation, audio bandwidth and audio level are constantly adjusted to guarantee the best wideband signal to noise ratio and to eliminate the picket fencing effects of multi-path reception. AM or FM stations can be randomly stored in any of the 10 memory presets for later recall with the simple touch of a button.

Processor Loop

The processor loop feature allows the instant addition or removal of an external signal processor, such as a digital or karaoke processor to your C-800 system.

Infrared Remote Control

The C-800’s unique features are accessed through the infrared remote controller. All aspects of system calibration, playback selection and home theater presentation lie directly under your fingertips. Designed with ergonomic simplicity, the controller allows you to directly command the C-800 with remarkable ease.

On-Screen Programming

On-Screen Programming is a distinct feature of the C-800. Simple On-Screen menu system provides step by step procedures for center channel mode select, rear channel time delay, high pass filter settings, digital multi-channel activation and tuner setup.

Zone 2

The Chiro C-800 is a dual zone preamplifier capable of sending audio signals from the main location to a remote location (Zone 2). In effect, it is two preamplifiers in one chassis. With the optional C-2R credit card size, remote control, you can activate Zone 2, select audio sources and adjust or mute volume level independently from the main location. You can also change tuner frequency band and stations as well as scan previously stored preset stations form your remote location.

Multiple Record Outs

The Record Out feature provides two major enhancements to the recording process. First, it allows recordings to be made from one source while the user is listening to or viewing another source.
