Quotes from reviews

"If I had to describe the H200 in one word, that word would be propulsive. Its ability to handle wide dynamic swings and sudden shifts in rhythm meant that it was adept at handling uptempo music, especially rock and jazz fusion. Bass lines were tight, nimble, and easy to follow, devoid of any sense of hesitancy. Kick drums and tom toms had pounding, pulsating impact...However, the H200 was no sledgehammer when it came to microdynamics, and here is where Hegel’s proprietary SoundEngine probably had its biggest impact, with refinement in the reproduction of the treble and midrange. The H200 displayed finesse during quiet passages, and had a light touch with more delicate music, such as acoustic guitar, solo piano, and gentle percussion. " - Soundstage

"How this all translates into a listening experience with the H200 is that musical details are always integrated into a larger picture rather than being hyped up so that your attention is unduly drawn to them. Via the H200, I tended to listen to music as a whole experience, the flow of the tune, the drama of the piece, the artistry of the musicians rather than listening to imaging, extension, dynamics, and so forth. Those elements are more than satisfactorily covered—large soundstage, lots of space, fine images, etc. But the great bonus here is that H200 actually plays music in a way that allows you to forget about audio evaluation and get involved as you might in a live concert. " - The Absolute Sound

About the H200

With its powerful 2x200 watts and a dual mono power supply it is much more dynamic and powerful than the H100 or H70. A feature of the H200 is the Home Theatre input, allowing you to combine it with an external surround sound system. The H200 has a relay switched input source selector and can be connected to different types of music sources. A display shows the selected input source and volume setting. The integrated amplifier has a new digitally controlled active preamp stage and SoundEngine amplifier modules. It has both balanced and unbalanced inputs.

The idea behind the H200 project was to design a new generation of amplifiers based on the new and improved SoundEngine amplifier technology from the H4A mk2 power amplifiers, combined with a completely new digitally controlled active preamp stage. The main goal was to keep the powerful and dynamic presentation of the H20 + H4A mk2 and combine it with a very transparent preamp stage. The sound has powerful dynamic bass, a high resolution soundstage and a smooth, warm and detailed sound. The reduction of dynamic distortion all over the audible frequency range together with complete elimination of "transistor sound" makes the H200 sound smooth and transparent without losing any details. The H200 plays dynamic, pure and powerful.
