Krell KRC-3 preamp; Mint condition; listed as an 8 simply
because of its age.
I am finally selling the Krell KRC-3 for only one reason –
when you have a Berkeley Reference DAC Series 2, you no longer need any pre-amp
(because of the finest volume control in the Berkeley in the digital
domain). The Krell has been sitting there
for 4 years in its original packaging while I used first the Berkeley Alpha
series 2 DAC, then the Berkeley Reference.
The Krell preamp was produced before Dan D’Agostino sold Krell and it is
superbly engineered. Great sounding, not
at all digital sounding, yet clean, precise, and with a great soundstage and
with great detail.
Original purchase price was $3K in the early 2000s. A great deal for a unit that has been just
sitting there. I recently tested it with
a Playback Designs Merlot DAC (which lacks a volume control) and it sounded superb.
Comes with remote control and original AC cable.
