Another treasure from my collection. If you know Sony, they are capable of making some very excellent sounding equipment, and this particular preamp is a perfect example. Plus, it's built to last and no cost spared in it's construction. Fiberglass boards, huge potted transformer, 10,000 uF main filter caps (bigger than some amplifiers), weighs in at just under 26 lbs. Has everything you could possibly want, an adjustable MM/MC phono stage, select-able balanced input for CD (should you have a balanced CD player), balanced and regular outputs, a built in headphone jack, plus it's remote controlled and much more. If you are reading this then you probably already know about this unit. These are highly sought after and just a week ago roughly one sold on eBay for $650 in less than a couple of hours and it had no remote and no SE upgrade! The SE upgrade costs more than my asking price for the unit! Anyway, I've had this for a few years now and while I have rotated it in my system a few times and always enjoyed what I heard. I've had some major life changes recently that forced a move into a much smaller place and I also lost my man cave in the process. Anyway, this along with a lot of other gear will be made available for someone who will be able to appreciate it and use it. I tried to get decent photos but black is tough to photo sometimes. There is a small scratch on the top edge of the face, and a couple of minor scratches on the cover. The front of the face is very clean and overall it's probably closer to an 8 but I will rate it as a 7 cosmetically, and 10+ functionally. No noise in any controls, and extremely quiet too (with the exception of the motorized selector switch that you can actually hear when you change inputs, which is normal for this model). I would encourage you to read up on this at the vintage knob's website, here's some quotes... "Although it needs a few mods to be brought to full speed, the stock E80ES is neutral, transparent, dynamic, dead silent and built like a tank. Mine has been running about 12 hours/day since I bought it in 1994 and that is what I call reliable. Its very good MC preamp is a nice touch as well, along with the motorized ALPS 4-gang volume pot, (fairly) low-impedance balanced outputs, 2x 10,000µF of Great Supply Nichicons, dual transformer, the massive copper busses and shielding bars, sealed relays for all i/o switching, gold-plated terminals, 2,5cm (Gibraltar) chassis, steel structure and 3mm steel top plate, 2mm steel sections, massive aluminium knobs and motor-activated rotary switch inputs & outputs. The Signature Edition mod by The Upgrade Company takes this unit to a whole new level. Anyway, it's a very solid performer and full of features, with superb build and sound quality. A steal at this price. Please be absolutely sure you want this as there are no returns. I guarantee it to be as described and fully functional when it arrives however I make no guarantees beyond that. I would assume that the person who buys this knows what it is and probably has been looking for one for a long time, they just don't show up for sale very often with good reason, these are easily keepers! Sadly, I lost the manual in the recent move but you can download one here http://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/sony/ta-e80es.shtml or from Sony's website directly. Good luck. Check my feedback and buy with confidence. Shipping (FedEx ground, insured) is fixed at $50 in the lower 48 states only. If it is less I will refund the difference, if it is more I will cover that. No PayPal fees either. Prompt payment is expected though, and unit will ship usually next day after PayPal indicates it is OK to ship. Thanks for looking and check my other ads for more great stuff.
