What a beautiful subwoofer! For a subwoofer, this is very elegant cabinet with a unique stylized design which matches the rest of the Boston Top of the Line VR-M speakers with their beautifully stylized real cherry cabinets and many with the same very cool hard laminate grey tops. These tops are a life saver in particular for the sub woofer as these laminated surfaces are extremely hard and durable and no matter how hard you try to prevent it, someone is always trying to put something wet on top of them. Although somewhat compact, this amazing Boston PV-1000 subwoofer does not sound like a compact sub. It is really sensational – both intensely musical and nuanced as well as dynamic and powerful, this sub is well suited for both Home Theater as well as the more demanding role of supporting 2-channel music. It is light and agile when it needs to be, and also thunderous and powerful – pressurizing even mid to large sized rooms.

Functionally it is flawless and there are no marks on either of the 10 inch drivers. This is a very high quality amp without the "pop" sound on power up or the "whump" sound when turned off that lesser powered subs have. Cosmetically the cabinet is in excellent condition, but not perfect. While it looks great in the photos and looks equally beautiful in real life, when you get very close and scrutinize you can see many very small cosmetic blemishes. On the top surface ion the rear chamfered edge there are a number of tiny surface dings - none very prominent. The left side of the cabinet has a fingernail sized ding. The bottom front corner on the right has a slightly blunted corner and a scrape along the edge - easier felt than seen. Other than that the remaining blemishes are very slight and scattered on various surfaces. The rear and bottom round metal grills are in great shape - the rear is unmarked and the bottom has just minor scuff marks. Note that in the photo showing the rear woofer grill the grill looks like it has surface undulations - that is not the case. It is perfectly smooth, however the pattern of grill hole dots on the grill create some odd effects with the pixels in my digital camera, and it makes it look like the surface is rippled. This sub has been meticulously maintained and although not perfect is in excellent condition. Terminations, switches and lights all work, the very conveniently located front controls work flawlessly, and the top hard laminate surface looks very nice - no chips or major blemishes on the surface, but there are numerous feint wispy scuffs and buff type scratches that are not very noticeable on normal room light. Note that the subwoofer will come with a detachable IEC power cable, but does not come with any specialized RCA subwoofer cables.

These Boston Acoustics PV-1000 subs do not come up for sale very often. Anyone who has owned one of these will tell you. That is really remarkable on a public forum rating site with so many contributors.

This Boston Acoustics PV1000 Sub retailed for $1,200 when new just a few years ago and is in very heavy demand on the used market, in particular when it is so functionally pristine and cosmetically nice as this one. Unlike many subwoofers that struggle to re-sell at 20-30% of their original retail price, this Boiston PV-100 sub has routinely sold for more than 50% of its MSRP.
