Perfectly working, 8/10 condition by the Audiogon scale (http://support.audiogon.com/customer/portal/articles/606176). Epik Legend dual 12" Sealed subwoofer. This is a monster of a sub that sounds great for movies, one of the best at it's $500-600 price point when they still made them. I'm only selling it because I'm moving. Asking $350 or best offer

The sub is in great condition. I've taken a picture of the only mark I can see on it, which is two tiny spots on the rear right corner of the sub, so tiny I almost thought they were dust. Not noticeable when standing more than a couple feet away.

Local pickup in San Diego preferred. I can be available almost any afternoon or evening. I can also ship it at your cost. It's 66 lbs, ships in its original double-ply box and would come from zip code 92122 if you want to estimate.

Following in the footsteps of our wildly successful Empire subwoofer is the new Legend, from Epik Subwoofers. The Legend takes all of the technology and performance that the Empire provides, and fits it into a smaller package.

Size matters. Some people simply can't fit an Empire into their listening room or their budget. The Legend allows you to fit great bass into your home without a huge price tag or a large cabinet. However, you still get the same high quality bass that you've come to expect from Epik.

Never has there been a subwoofer that sounds this good and offers this much performance at this price. We mean it. There are a lot of 'wanna-be' subwoofers that are laying around in large electronic retailers at more than double the cost that can't even scratch the surface of what the Legend provides.

Incredible musicality? Huge output? Deep extension? You got it. The dual sealed design takes care of what matters to our most demanding customers. Distracting port noise is completely eliminated as well as the sloppy, boomy bass that nearly all subs at this price point seem to suffer from.

Parallel Drive Technology™

Our new Parallel Drive Technology ™ is the driving force behind its performance. We discovered that designing a pair of drivers to specifically replace a single driver can lead to some very large performance increases without an increase in cost, when done right.

The Legend's two drivers have a surface area equivalent to roughly an 18 inch driver. However, we have TWO motors driving the cones in parallel instead of a single motor. Instead of asking one driver to work very hard, we let a pair of driver's coast through the most torturous of playback materials. Speed, sound quality, explosive dynamics and effortlessness are the name of the game.

Performance

There are many advantages to this design approach. Having dual drivers allows us to mount the drivers in an opposite-firing configuration. This results in almost no cabinet vibration, especially when compared to single driver subwoofers. If you put your hand on the subwoofer during a very loud passage, and you will notice the cabinet doesn't vibrate. The drivers are internally 'coupled' via the bracing to cancel the forces on the cabinet. Virtually no energy is transmitted to the ground or floor via the cabinet.

The extra cone area creates an extremely efficient design. The overall sensitivity of its dual 12 inch drivers gives the Legend huge overall output for its size and price point. Similarly priced subs simply can't match the SPL levels generated by the Legend. This also gives it amazing midbass performance that doesn't seem possible from its smaller size.

When comparing the Legend to similarly priced subwoofers from our competitors, it truly stands alone. Its dual sealed design delivers musical performance that doesn't sound anything like subs in this price range. Audiophile performance is now available for under $500.

Forget about that boomy sound of ported subwoofers that are plagued with port noise. The Legend is not hindered by an inability to play beneath a tuning frequency or a port. Its sealed cabinet can play as low as you want it to, meaning that subsonics are delivered without port noise that can take away from what is happening on the screen or the concert sound being reproduced. Instead, it disappears into your room and seamlessly blends with your speakers like a chameleon.

The Legend handles double-duty of home theater and musical material better than any subwoofer at its price point that we've ever heard. Whether you need window rattling SPL or clean, clear bass with no overhang, it handles all material with tight, powerful bass that is never slow or muddy.

Drivers

The Legend uses a pair of proprietary 12 inch drivers. They each utilize a hybrid paper pulp/poly cone for improved strength, high reliability and light weight. Just like every driver we've ever made, the surround and spider are designed to provide optimum linearity of the given cabinet design, even at high excursion levels.

The motor on the driver is a scaled down version of our Empire motor. It borrows heavily from the design of its dual 15 inch drivers, but has been translated to a smaller 12 inch driver size. For its size, the Legend's dual 12 inch drivers provide a huge amount of surface area. Using two drivers gives us an increase in overall efficiency versus a single driver.

Splitting the amplifier power over two drivers reduces voice coil heat. The less a subwoofer driver heats up, the louder it plays. When listening for a long duration like a movie or concert DVD, the Legend retains dynamic performance even when you are pushing it very hard.

This not only improves dynamic performance over long term use, but it also results in more reliable driver operation. It also means better sound quality and lower distortion. The Legend can be driven to high levels without compromise, and the difference is easy to hear when you pop in your favorite DVD or Blu-Ray.

The Legend's dual 12 inch drivers in a sealed configuration make it stand out against similarly priced (or even more expensive subwoofers) that share its size. It offers true audiophile performance at a price point never before possible. The effortlessness and authority it provides on movies and music is unmatched for the price, and its sound quality truly sets it apart.

Cabinet

Like its bigger brother, the Legend's sealed design gives it several advantages versus a ported design. It does not generate ANY port noise. This makes it far more difficult to localize in a room, as it can disappear completely from the soundstage as it should. Its sealed cabinet sounds incredibly tight and clean in the lowest regions with no overhang. Its low end is crisp and controlled.

Subsonic bass occurs more naturally with the sealed design as well. The Legend does not roll off below tuning like a ported subwoofer does. You also can not unload the driver at extremely low frequencies like a ported design, thanks to the natural air-spring inside the cabinet.

The precision CNC routed cabinet features braced ¾" walls throughout. The dual grills also feature 1 inch thick construction. Although it is overkill, the Legend uses the same custom made grill pins as the ones used on the Empire to keep the grill in place without any vibration.

The drivers are mounted in an opposite-firing configuration with internal bracing. This actively cancels out the force and vibration generated by both of the driver. This means that the cabinet does not experience the same type of stress as a single driver subwoofer, and does not shake at higher output levels. Reliability is improved thanks to this simple yet effective design feature.

Even though it is small, the Legend's build quality is astounding. Everything from its massive grill frames to its 1 inch roundover profiled edges (on every edge) screams quality. All components are perfectly flush-mounted into the cabinet resulting in an elegant piece of cabinetry that is only matched by its tight and uncolored audiophile sound quality.

Amplifier

Our proven amplifier design has been transferred into a new and more compact 300 watt design. It has dedicated direct inputs for both crossover and LFE usage so there is no signal-degrading switch used on other cheaper amplifiers. It also features high level inputs which make easy work of older receivers and two channel setups.

To help with functionality, we've also included several features for plug-and-play setup. The crossover can be bypassed for use with a receiver or set between 50-150 Hz. It has a phase control that can be set at 0 or 180 degrees to help blend with your main speakers. You can also activate the amplifier's 'auto' on function, which automatically turns the subwoofer on and off when you are listening to music or a movie.

The amplifier is an ultra-efficient Class D design. It features an advanced switching power supply that offers both 120 and 220 Volt operation. The no-hum ground-loop free design means that the only sound coming out of the subwoofer is deep, clean bass. Its thick steel face plate and massive aluminum internal heat sink allow it to play clean and stay reliable.

Thanks to the driver configuration, there are also no cabinet vibrations to shorten the life of the amplifier or compromise sound quality. As always, we didn't miss a single detail with this subwoofer or its components. This audiophile grade amplifier is no exception.
