As new Mentor preamp. This is the new top of the line level 5 preamp from AudioNoteKits. It uses massive triple C-core output transformers and dual mono Khozmo attenuators. It was built by Digital Pete, who does immaculate work. Includes all the stock tubes, which are 6sn7, ECC99, and 274b rectifier. If desired, for an extra $300, I can include a matched pair of 274B Pavane WE Replica tubes ($425) and a CV181 tube ($120).
One of the keys to this preamp is the power supply, which is modeled after the Audio Note M10. It uses a single or dual rectifier tubes. There is also a massive choke.
It does have upgraded V-caps ($500). I listened to it for a week when I bought it last year with the AudioNote caps and decided to upgrade to the V-caps and it was an improvement. But if you want to put back in Audionote caps, they are available from several companies and an easy change. The total cost for this to me was $5750 + $500 = $6250. Selling for $3650 plus ship.
Truly balanced and single-ended outputs.
This is a phenomenal preamp. Extremely revealing, yet supreme musicality. Images are large and very present, with incredible detail and texture. Soundstages are sharply drawn, with great depth and width.
I use it with my Audionote amps, and my Firstwatt Sit2. This compares favorably with any of the Shindo preamps. I have owned them all up to and including the Vosne Romanee L and this is even more revealing of the musical nuance, detail, and musicality. This is the actual unit pictured on the Audionotekits website. It is the unit with the large white Mundorf cap.
This is the model with the slightly larger chassis which they are calling the Mentor 2.0.
Absolutely silent in use, with no hum, buzz or noises.
I do also have a pair of L4 power amps I will be selling when this sells. If you want the package, please inquire. It is a great combination, with palpable images and tremendous presence.
