Up for sale, my Mint condition Platine Verdier . A classic table, much has been written about it over the years, the concept of magnetic levitation pioneered by the maker remains unequalled . Two years old, I am the original owner , purchased from an Authorised Dealer.
Selling to thin out the Turntable collection & focus on my remaining tables, I have three others.
Mint condition, no issues whatsoever . Will come with two original armboards . The 9lb TT Weights platter ($700) is included at this price. It is a Copper-Carbon Fibre platter weighing in at 9lbs. If the buyer does not want this, the price of the table drops by $700 to $7800.
Obviously, the tonearms shown are not included. I have all the original boxes, manuals and accessories that came with the table.
J. C. Verdier has been manufacturing this turntable for over thirty years. It is now recognised all over the world as one of the finest sounding turntables available today. This is even more remarkable when you consider how little it has changed in those 30 years. Here are some of the unique features which have led to its cult status:
1. The plinth is pneumatically decoupled from the support table via air bellows and damped like a car shock absorber. The top of the bellows has an knurled adjuster for leveling the turntable. This is a very simple operation as the three adjusters are on top of the plinth for ease of set-up.
2. The platter which weights 16Kgs (35lbs) is made of non-magnetic alloy and is supported by magnetic repulsion which removes the need for a thrust bearing. This principle significantly reduces bearing noise and in practice it also reduces record surface noise.
Dissimilar metals are used between the record spindle and the platter, which help to further decouple the record from the platter and the bearing.
There are two ways of driving the platter; a rubber belt or a linen thread. It is down to the customer to choose which one they prefer.
3. A low inertia high torque motor is used to drive the platter and this is fitted in a separate housing to reduce vibration from being transmitted into the turntable. The motor has three speeds: 33, 45 & 78rpm, and all are fully adjustable so speed can be precisely set.
The Platine Verdier has the capability for mounting two tonearms and this package includes two original armboards.
The table is a great deal at this price, basically half of list. Current MSRP is $15,000 plus taxes. Please read my Feedback here and on Canuck Audio Mart under "bobolaclune" and buy with confidence
Local pickup in the Toronto area welcome, price is firm so no lowballers please .
