About a week ago a fellow contacted me online. He'd been lucky enough to find one of my units second hand and wanted to ask a couple of questions. That happens every once in a while. That particular unit was a 2007 job that had been in the field for 12 years. He said  "My only comment regarding the quality of music from this is: dang me. Likely the best in 50 years of chasing the rabbit..." I thought that was pretty cool.

The fellow had been using single ended fancy pants "Signature"  big bucks amplifiers for years. I'm used to that story. Get one of my amps, sell what you currently have overpaid for, pocket the difference. It reminded me that I haven't posted anything in forever so I'm posting this particularly sweet sounding piece.

This is a fully handmade, unique basic amplifier. Like all of my units it's all hard wired, tuned by ear, and like no other amp out there. I fitted this one into a very old chassis. The base and cage came from a really old unit. There were no manufacturers designations on it. There was no bottom plate. There was however a look that I liked. That's where I got started.

All the original parts went out. Everything, complete clean out. In went transformers, bits and parts, and most importantly, my circuitry. it sounds strikingly good. It's no powerhouse though. I'm quoting 20 watts a side from push pull 6L6. It's got an input section with four 6SN7. Yes, all octal and dead quiet. Perfect for those single driver guys or Original Quad types. It's currently driving a double pair of VMPS Tower II with grace and ease. This is not a physically large or imposing unit. It's only 12" x 10" x 10" and not particularly heavy. No adjustment needed at any time. Each of the output tubes cathode biases individually. The phase inverter autobalances assuring equal feed to the output transformers. The unit can be run with or without the cover. Good solid hardware throughout.

Of note to those that need to consider this, very high WAF. To "Ensure Domestic Tranquility" is in the Preamble to the Constitution. The idea has been of considerable note for quite some time. It's a factor of significant importance for many. Just thought I'd mention it.

Ideally, my amps go into a living room and stay there for a very long time. You do find a used one every once in a while but not often. People have lives that change. Every time one goes up for sale I get a lot of emails from both prospective buyers and from my students who always notice such things.

If you see one such, grab it. He who hesitates is lost.

If you don't, here's a brand new one. It's been on the shelf for a while with my other units.  I build for fun really. This was one fun build.

The best buy in HiFi.

Get it or regret it.

No International sales please.

P.S.-- Since I took the first photos I replaced the original output tubes with a brand new set of straight side 6L6 (Pictured). Might as well have new outputs!
