Latest NOTE: I have decided to add line out RCA jacks on the side of the unit. This means that the unit can be used for as a pre-amp for you power amp. When the headphones are plugged in, the line out is silenced. Then when the headphone cord is pulled from the jack, the line out function is enabled. .....................................Shipping Now Included...... About a year ago, or more, I started developing an interest in headphones. You Know that's a rabbit hole, right? Sure, it's fun, but it had to stop somewhere. In the process, I actually built two of these units, 'cuz I like to build, and figured that I could one up at a decent price. Well, here you go. This is a Korg NuTube unit designed by Pete Millet himself. Thanks Pete for all the help, and the design itself. So, if you haven't heard of the NuTube yet, then it is simple to get. It is a new very miniature tube that has low heat dissipation. The size also makes it easy to find a chassis for. (No, not a cheap plastic box, but something classy). I used all quality parts in this build because, yes, in headphone amps it matters more. No apologies for the sound here. Just tonight, I listened to two headphone amps. One a SS amp from Xenos, and then the NuTube amp. The album was Paul M. 'Venus and Mars'. The Xenos provided a sharp and even edgy midrange. I was surprised at that . I remember it being a 'good little amp'. Then the NuTube. It is simple, I never had the urge to go back and compare, since, really there is no comparison to be had. The ZMF planer headphones (60 ohms) that I use are too honest for me to even want to try another set just to make sure. Dam. that doesn't happen very often. I did try my HiFi Man 400S (22 ohm) as well. This amp gave the music back it's harmonic nature for drums and guitar. Stuff I had forgotten about, and why I liked this album so much Mcartney did some fine recordings after the Beatles, and this is certainly one of my favorites. My big expensive headphone amp beats this less expensive amp only in one direction... down in the bass lines. but then, I have never come close to equalling my Aikido amp with a giant power supply for bass response. It would cost you dearly, and IT is not for sale. I am keeping the other NuTube unit that I built and it is my go to headphone amp (yah, I got a few more, but don't you always have a product that you automatically reach for?). Buy it, try it , like it, done. Otherwise, send it back in the same shape as it was delivered to you for a full refund. Period. Peek at my feedback here and at US Audio Mart. 100% satisfaction for good reason.
