Beveridge Model 2SW - restored - beautiful pair

SALE PENDING - This pair of Beveridge Model 2SW electrostatic speakers is no ordinary pair. To start with, the amplifiers are fully restored using brand-new, higher spec and higher temperature parts than the original, and the work was done by a professional electronics engineer, and completed just last month. After referring to the original schematics and speaking with the amp's designer, Roger Modjeski, on the telephone to ensure the design's integrity, the amplifiers were restored to better-than-new condition. As you can see in the photographs, they are spotless and dust-free. The only modifications were to add an IEC plug (with a fused power switch!) and the addition of a small circuit board to allow the use of XLR balanced inputs, both for convenience. The rudimentary solid state subwoofer amplifier was also removed from the signal path and a "sub-out" jack added so new, modern subwoofers can be used.

The panels themselves are in excellent condition and sound wonderful. I hand painted all of the flutes so that the speaker looks attractive even without the original foam grilles, which I still have. For esthetics, I had the amplifiers stripped of their poor paint finish and had them painted in gloss black at an automotive paint shop. The aluminum trim pieces that run along the length of the acoustic lenses were also replaced and painted in the same automotive gloss black, and are attached with stainless steel screws, carefully countersunk for a neat appearance.

The only thing remaining to be done to bring these speakers back to "as new" condition would be to refinish the wood cases, which are not in very good condition with chips near both the top and bottom edges. I purchased some beautiful quarter-sawn maple veneer for this purpose and this will be included in the sale at no additional charge, so the buyer could have a brand-new looking set of speakers through re-veneering.

If you are looking for an excellent pair of these legendary speakers in perfect operating condition, this is an outstanding opportunity. To fully realize their potential, one must integrate a pair of modern subwoofers--the original subwoofers (which I do not have) were not very good. The midrange and high frequencies of the Beveridge Model 2SW electrostatic speakers are fantastic, though, with classical music rendered in beautiful textures and tone.
