Brand new T-8's selling to get their flagship T-9. Teak wood. I got these on Monday, hooked them up to the best DAC and Tube amps I could find- and was so stunned by their performance that I am storing my Infinity Reference Standards and buying the T-9 as my new reference.
The T-8 offers about 90% of the T-9 with the T-9 having a more expensive crossover and an extra Midrange. I liked so much what I heard with the T-8 I am buying the T-9 without hearing it.
The T-8 competes favorably with $65,000 Magicos with a subwoofer and MBL as well as with ANY planar. Think of Planar detail, but with dynamic bass that does not peter out under 40hz because of the Chapman compression line system (Something of a cross between Transmission line and a tapered port) These do not sound like ported speakers- they sound like really huge large format floor standers with sealed subs. The Midrange plays down to 50Hz -(The midrange ports to the inside while firing forward)so they have that palpable Mini monitor type of clean imaging but with life size images, and the side firing Bass driver acts like a sub and ports to the rear- because of the port and driver arrangement they fill a space better than any other speaker of their size . All drivers have separate enclosures. The Crossovers are encased in Resin to stop any sympathetic vibrations. The speakers are packed with Silica for further deadening. The wood is aged for 2-3 years before making one of these. They are produced in Vashon Island in Washington.
Factory sped' Frequency response 28hz- 20,000hz +- 2db. (though they seem to have output up to nearly 30khz - which is spec'd for their tweeter.) The roll off at 28 hz is not steep and there is output to 20hz.
Listed as 4ohm, but run 6ohm through much of their range and are a benign load on nearly any amplifier which broadens your amplifier choices. I have played them through Cary 211's (110 watts) , Bob Carver 305 watt tube amps, Audio Research VS110 (110 watts) . All play loud enough that you would never go full volume.
No need for photos as they are as new.
