This sale is for a pair of Era Design 5 Sat speakers. These were part of a 5.1 surround speaker system which includes 4 full range speakers, a center channel speaker, and a subwoofer. The original retail price for this speaker system was over $3,500. All of these speakers are built with a very high-quality sycamore finish. Sycamore is similar in appearance to maple.
I can also include custom heavy stands that I designed and built specifically for these Era Design 5 Sat speakers. They are made from rigid conduit and have bases made with MDF. One of the bases has slight damage caused by a chewing puppy, but could easily be replaced with new MDF. These speaker stands are fairly heavy and might be expensive to ship, so are probably best for local pickup in the Madison, WI area.
These were originally manufactured by Signal Path International, which was later sold to Peachtree Audio Design. The speakers were designed by Jim Spainhour and David Solomon, engineered by Aerial Acoustics' Michael Kelly, and manufactured in China. I purchased them directly from David Solomon after hearing them at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2006. They were chosen to be a part of an audiophile surround sound system to demonstrate my multichannel DAC/amplifier which I was trying to bring to market. These speakers were chosen because they had a remarkable full dynamic range for monitor style speakers. Plus, they are very nice looking. They utilize long throw drivers allowing them to get a fairly deep bass sound. These speakers are very similar (I believe they are the same size, use the same drivers and electronics) as the current speakers Peachtree Audio sells as their D5 Monitor Speaker. The Era Design 4 or Peachtree Audio D4 is the little brother of these Design 5s.
They are in excellent condition and have been used lightly. After building my prototype DAC/amp, I wasn't able to bring it to market. These speakers never left my house and were well taken care of.
