Many have heard of the reputation this arm enjoys amongst the tonearm cognoscenti of the world.....particularly the Germans and Japanese. Is this reputation deserved....? In direct comparison with most of the modern 'super' arms, I have found none (other than the Continuum Cobra and Copperhead) which can extract the same amount of information from cartridges of all types, as the FR-66S.
Most owners of the few FR-66s models produced, bought after having owned the equally sublime 9" FR-64S tonearm.  Is the premium for the 12" 'King of Tonearms' worth it...? If you have the room for it on your turntable, you will hear all the brilliance provided by the FR-64S with an added relaxation and ease of trackability. There is slightly more depth and dimensionality to the bass reproduction and more transparency and detail in the treble regions. But the 'on-the-fly' VTA adjustability provided by the B60 arm-base makes 'dialing-in' the perfect SRA of any cartridge, easily and immediately audible.
This is a high-mass tonearm which technically is ideal for low-compliance cartridges like most of the Moving Coils (both past and present). However, it is, together with the Copperhead.....the best tonearm I have heard in mating with all the high-compliance MM cartridges in my 60+ collection.
If you want the best 'Universal' tonearm ever made..... If you want to hear what 'The Legend' is all about...... If you want 'The King of Tonearms'.....
