This was my first true Hi-Fi purchase 25 years ago. Stepped up to the big leagues with this Velodyne servo sub. It sounds no different to me now than it did back in 1994. However, it has been through eight moves with the military, so the paint is really showing its age. Also, the foam rotted out back in 2011 on the trip back home from Germany. So I replaced that myself. The repair was surprisingly easy and has functioned flawlessly since then. I have never replaced the capacitors so some very low level rushing sound is starting to play through. I have to have my head directly above the sub (1 foot away) to hear it. The noise vanishes into the room ambient noise when I stand up. I've attached a picture of the sub's near field response measured at six inches. You can see it measures exactly as a sealed sub should. I also provided the 1 meter in-room measurement to show that (in 12x13 foot room) I was getting bass down to 16hz. After light room correction I had 16-80hz flat. I've priced it according to cosmetic condition and capacitor replacement. Local pick-up is going to be the best option since I have no capable box to ship it in. Heavy subwoofers just beg to be ripped up in shipping.
