VPI Industries Scout

The VPI Scout is a highly regarded audiophile turntable, known for its solid build and upgrade path. This is the classic Scout featuring a heavy 1.5-inch thick acrylic platter for superb speed stability and resonance control. It comes equipped with VPI’s 9-inch JMW unipivot tonearm with enhanced wiring and anti-skate(the JMW-9 Signature), which offers exceptional tracking and the ability to swap cartridges easily thanks to its removable armwand design. The acrylic platter rides on an inverted bearing with a hardened steel shaft and Teflon thrust, ensuring ultra-smooth rotation. The motor is an isolated AC synchronous type in a separate housing to minimize vibration reaching the platter. Overall, the Scout produces wide soundstage, deep bass, and the kind of analog warmth and detail that have made it an audiophile favorite.

Note: This unit does not include a phono cartridge, allowing you to choose one that suits your taste. It has the desirable acrylic platter and includes a 100 gram counterweight, but it will need a new drive belt (a relatively inexpensive part from VPI or dealers). Cosmetically in good shape, with maybe minor scuffs from normal use. If you’re looking to get into high-end vinyl, the VPI Scout offers a fantastic foundation that can be further upgraded over time – truly a best-in-class turntable at this price point.
