This Yamaha M-85 has been restored and is in perfect operational condition.
(See details below of what was done as part of the refurbishment.)
I will include a hardcopy of the original
owner’s manual.

Note: Here are some basic
output specifications for the Yamaha M-85. What specs DON"T reveal to you is how the amp actually sounds, ie. its musicality. Hence, why specs are so over rated. There is plenty of information online
about this “legendary amp” with many positive opinions posted and if you are
seriously considering this amp I would urge you to search for specs and opinions.

M-85 basic output

  • 260 Watts (8 ohms) from 20 to
20,000 Hz at no more than 0.003% THD

20,000 Hz at no more than 0.007% THD

  • 330 Watts (4 ohms) from 20 to
20,000 Hz at no more than 0.02% THD

Vintage Yamaha amplifiers have
a great reputation but in their original unrestored condition they have
numerous components that must be replaced because they are prone to failure. This amp being fully restored means many more years of trouble free use.

Below is a list of the
refurbishments made to this amp:

1. All Electrolytic capacitors, 23 total, were replaced with
new, high grade capacitors matching the old cap values. (Note: The four large
power capacitors were not replaced because they tested within spec, looked fine
and sounded great.)

2. All Sony corrosive glue was removed from PCB boards. (The glue
used in early Yamaha amps is a serious problem and must be removed along with
any components damaged by the glue.)

3. The original RCA balanced connectors were replaced with new gold RCA connectors.

4. Speaker A connections were replaced with quality five way binding
posts.

5. The original internal adjustable resistors were replaced with new
Bourne variable resistors of appropriate specifications. The original variable
resistors are prone to failure and can cause devastating damage when they fail.

6. A Little Fuse Thyristor switch was installed to greatly reduce the
power current load on the original power switch. This is an important upgrade
because the original Yamaha power switches are no longer available.

7. All key solder connections were re-soldered.

8. Amplifier was fully re-biased to specifications.

CONDITION: Amplifier is in perfect
working condition. VU meters are fully operational and front face is scratch
free. There are a couple of very minor nicks and two scratches on the top of the front face plate that I have tried to photograph. See pics.
This is my personal amp so I know it inside out and can personally attest to its
performance because I use this amp in rotation with my other amplifiers on a
regular basis. I am being conservative with the 7/10 rating only because there are two scratches on the TOP of the face plate. Look closely at the pics and judge for yourself.

Local buyers are welcome to audition amp after payment and an immediate refund will be given if not completely satisfied. I have the original box that I can give to local buyers but it is not sturdy enough to use for shipping.

Questions for the seller
Will you consider to ship outside U.S.?
I won't ship overseas but if you made all the arrangements and payments with a shipping service of your choice I would consider this option. After you pay me they could pick the package up. But you would be fully responsible for filing any claims for lost or damaged item with your shipper and the sale would have to be as-is with no returns.
