The baby of the Apogee Grand series of speakers - Apogee Stages atop bespoke dual 10 inch bass-reflex subwoofer systems.
The Stage passive crossovers have been modified with North Creek designed crossover & components including Edison Price Music Posts (used only as clamps for speaker wires because the best binding post is no binding post) . George at North Creek designed the original Stage crossover when he worked at Apogee, but perfected it years later at his company North Creek, selling the pre-assembled custom crossover for $1,000.
This speaker must be used with at least two stereo amps (one each for Stage panels and one for the subs) or a stereo amp plus separate subwoofer amp if using the Apogee active stereo subwoofer crossover.
The active line- level crossover has been extensively modified for single- ended use only (RSA inputs and outputs) with super transparent op-amps biased into class A, Infinicap bypass caps, Black Gate power supply caps and Tiffany RCA connectors. The active crossover is effective at 80Hz and has ability to attenuate either subs or Stage panels to match individual room characteristics. Use of the speakers is very flexible as Stages can be run full-range and subs can be used with a standard subwoofer amp. subs, mid-range ribbon and tweeter ribbons can be run in-phase or 180 degrees out of phase. There is no right or wrong way, wire to suit.
These speakers are full-range and have world class sound even by today's standards. Ribbons and woofers are in perfect shape. The Mini-Grand was last manufactured in 1998. I bought this beautiful pair used in 2000, but decorating demands forced me to retire them in 2007. Check web for many favorable reviews. These are better than new in terms of sound quality.
I was saving these speakers for a dedicated listening room but life and college tuition has gotten in the way. I am now hoping to find them a good home. Size and fragileness force local pickup only. Call or write with any questions 631.912.5649.
